Fun Ideas for Last Day of School Activities

On the last day of school, the kids have mentally checked out, the teachers arent far behind, and theres no more time for long-term projects. But, we still need to fill the day with something productive in order to keep the natives from getting ridiculously restless and out of line. If youre wondering how to organize the last day of the school year so that its as fun and memorable as possible, consider these ideas. Write a Letter to Next Years Students Ask your students to write a letter to the students you will teach next year. The kids can offer tips for success in your classroom, favorite memories, inside jokes, anything that a new student in your room might need or want to know. Youll get a kick out of seeing what the kids remember and how they perceive you and your classroom. And you have a ready-made activity for the first day of school next year. Make a Memory Book   Design a simple little book for the kids to fill out on the last day(s) of school. Include sections for my favorite memory, a self-portrait, autographs, what I learned, a drawing of the classroom, etc. Get creative and your students will appreciate a memory book of their year in your room. Clean, Clean, Clean Use the power of youthful energy and elbow grease to lessen the  load you face in closing down and cleaning up your classroom. Kids will love to scrub desks, take down posters, straighten up books, whatever you ask them to do. Write all of the tasks on index cards, pass them out, turn up the music, and supervise. A cute idea is to play The Coasters Yakety Yak while they clean. It sings, Take out the papers and the trash, or you dont get no spending cash! Dare them to finish their jobs before the song is over. Assign Impromptu Speeches Think of 20 quick speech topics and have the kids choose them from a jar. Give them just a few minutes to prepare mentally and then call them up for spur-of-the-moment speeches. Fun topics include Convince us to buy the shirt you are wearing now or How would the school be different if you were principal? Click here for a complete list of topics. The audience loves to watch and the speakers will love getting creative in front of the class. Play Outdoor Games Dust off that outdoor games book that you never had time to use this year and pick a few activities for the last day of school. A great choice is Guy Baileys The Ultimate Playground and Recess Game Book. The kids will be antsy anyways so you might as well put their energy and excitement to good use. Organize Learning Game Centers   The children wont even realize theyre learning. Pool together all of the educational games in your classroom. Split the class into small groups and designate centers in the room for each game. Set the timer and give each group a certain amount of time with each game. Give the signal and then the groups rotate around the room so everyone gets a chance to play all of the games. Focus on Next Year Give the kids time to write, draw, or discuss how things will be different in the next grade level. For example, third graders will love to imagine what they will learn, look like, act like, and feel like when they are finally in the world of fourth grade. Its only a year but to them, it seems a universe away. Hold a Spelling Bee Hold a traditional Spelling Bee using all of the spelling words from the whole school year. This one can take quite a while, but its certainly educational. Go Back to Back Use a safety pin to attach a large index card or thicker piece of paper to each childs back. Then, the kids go around and write nice comments and memories on each others backs. When youre all done, each child gets to keep his or her note with compliments and fun times written on it. Teachers, you can jump in, too. You just might have to bend down so that they can reach your back. Write Thank You Notes Teach your children to recognize and appreciate those individuals who helped make them successful this school year - the principal, secretary, food service workers, librarian, parent volunteers, even the teacher next door. This may be a good project to start a few days before the last day of school so that you can really do it right. Edited By: Janelle Cox.

From the above table, the characteristics of the Board are that most of them pursue a history of relationship with different companies prior to working in Woolworths. Furthermore, the Board possesses huge demonstrated leadership skills that assist in better operational effectiveness. Due to their impeccable character and prior business experience, they are able to contribute towards the well-being of the company (Choi Meek, 2011). Few board members even pursue strong banking experience that assists in providing a strong commitment to the bank. Corporate Governance Recommendations of ASX Corporate Governance Council Recommendations Principles Recommendation 1. Act ethically and responsibly The company must possess a code of conduct for all its members and disclose such code in summary to them. 2. Safeguard integrity in corporate reporting The Board must have an audit committee that must undertake a key role in corporate reporting. If the board does not have an audit committee, it must independently verify and safeguard the integrity of its reporting. 3. Make balanced and timely disclosure Company must have a written policy for adhering to its regular obligations under the listing rules and it must make ways to disclose such policy to all its members. The auditor of Woolworths Ltd in the year 2015 is Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. During the year 2015, these auditors have not only performed their assigned regulatory duties, but have also assisted in performing certain other kinds of services that is non-audit services (Woolworths Limited, 2015). Besides, even the board of Woolworths is also satisfied that performing such services in addition to their statutory responsibilities have not compromised their independence requirements set in the Corporations Act 2001 or as set out in APES 110 Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants. Other auditors comprise of international associates of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. The remuneration received by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu in the year 2015 for review or audit of the financial report stands at $2518000, for compliance and regulatory associated services $13,000, for non-audit related services $687,000, and for tax compliance services $85,000 (Woolworths Limited, 2015). Furthermore, other auditors of Woolworths received $172,000 for review or audit of financial reports, $525,000 for other non-audit associated services, and $101,000 for tax compliance related services. This makes the total remuneration of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu and its international associates report at $4101000 in the year 2015 ($3303000 + $798000). Throughout the process of audit, external auditors add credibility to the financial statements of the management that permits investors, creditors, bankers, and owners to utilize them with greater confidence. Furthermore, such auditors are entrusted with attaining a thorough understanding of the operations, environment, and internal controls of the company (Albrecht et. al, 2011). After thorough understanding, external auditors prepare ways to collect evidence in order to form an opinion regarding the financial statements. However, it is notable that this can be achieved only if there is no lack of independence because lack of independence restricts an external auditor to address the audit problems that in turn minimizes the assurance and credibility of an external audit. The most common acceptable current ratio is 2:1 while the most commonly acceptable quick ratio is 1:1. From the above table, it is identifiable that both these ratios have depicted a decline when compared to the last year (Northington, 2011). This signifies poor liquidity position prevailing in the company and therefore, it is highly required that it must take proper corrective actions to get rid of such crunch. Profitability Ratio This ratio assists in determining how effectively the company is utilizing its assets for generating profits in future (Graham Smart, 2012). From the above table, it is observable that the return on assets ratio has depicted a decline in comparison to the last year that indicates the company has not effectively utilized its assets and therefore, the management must give due attention towards it (Parrino et. al, 2012). Furthermore, the net profit margins have also witnessed a decline in comparison to the last year due to immense competition from competitors like Wesfarmers ltd. Therefore, due to significant drop in sales, the net profit margin also declined. In contrast to this, Woolworths have improved its financial health in comparison to the last year and it is evident from the slight increase in its gross profit margin ratio. Solvency Ratio From the above table, observable that the debt to equity ratio of the company has declined indicates lesser debt utilized by the company while the return on equity ratio has also declined (Williams, 2012). This means that the company has utilized more of investors financing in the year 2015 but it has failed to utilize such funds effectively, thereby leading to various problems in future. Efficiency Ratio From the above figures, it is observable that the inventory turnover ratio, asset turnover ratio, and accounts receivable turnover ratio have significantly declined in the current year. A decline in inventory turnover ratio of the company indicates that Woolworths is holding its inventories for more period than it used to hold before (Horngren, 2013). Furthermore, decline in accounts receivable turnover ratio indicates that Woolworths has significantly failed to collect its dues from the customers, thereby resulting in crunch of cash and working capital management. Furthermore, these shareholders play a key role in the performance of Woolworths as they contribute for its effectiveness of corporate sector and the development of economy as a whole (Davies Crawford, 2012). This in turn assists in the efficient utilization of assets within the company because these shareholders are the efficient monitors and with their ownership stake can force the management to operate according to their will. This permits them to overturn or veto decisions made by the present board members of the company (Woolworths Limited, 2015). Moreover, since these shareholders do not hold more than 50% shares of the company, this relationship between the company and shareholders is irreversible. In the event of acquisition or merger, such major stakeholders also gain an advantage to enhance their stake of shareholding in the new company (Heffer nan, 2015). This implies that, in case of a strategic merger that involves swap of shares, these major shareholders gain a significant opportunity to structure the deal in such a manner that they continue to pursue majority of voting power in the new formed entity. Conclusion From the above report, it is clear that Woolsworth has faced acute problem in its operations and is evident from the poor recoding of ratios. The liquidity ratio is poor and is a strong alert for the management. Similarly, decline in asset turnover ratio portrays that the company is not growing into its capacity. On a whole, Woolworths is in a critical situation and must take corrective actions immediately. References Albrecht, W., Stice, E. Financial Statement Analysis of Gul Ahmed free essay sample

First the balance sheet summarizes the asset, liabilities, and owners equity of a business at a moment in time, usually the end of a quarter or year. Income statement summarizes the revenues and expenses of the firm over a particular period of time, again usually year or at the end of a quarter. Simply the balance sheet represents the company position at a given point in time and income statement shows the summary of the firm profitability over time. The tool we are using in this project is Ratio analysis, Index analysis, and common size analysis. Ratio Analysis: Ratio analysis involves methods of calculating and interpreting financial ratios to analyze and monitor the firm performance. Types of Ratio: Financial ratio can be divided for convenience into four categories: liquidity, activity, debt, and profitability. Activity liquidity and debt ratios primarily measure the risk and profitability ratios measure the return. We are using these ratios to analyze the financial reports and the current position of the GULL AHMED Company. We will write a custom essay sample on Financial Statement Analysis of Gul Ahmed or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Liquidity Ratios: The liquidity of a firm is measured by its ability to satisfy its short term bligations as they come due or refers to the solvency of the firm overall financial position. In liquidity ratios we are finding the liquidity of the proposed company through these two ratios 1) Current ratio the most commonly cited financial ratio measure the firm ability to meet its short term obligation, its expressed as follows: Current ratio = Current assets Current liabilities The current ratio of the Gull Ahmed Company of year 2009 is 7359272000 7749618000 = 0. 90 Time series or Trend analysis: The remaining year’s current ratios are obtained through this method. The table of five year ratio is given below: Year| 2009| 2008| 2007| 2006| 2005| Current Ratio| 0. 95| 0. 9| 0. 95| 1| 1. 05| Generally the higher the current ratio the more liquid the firm is considered to be but in many cases it depends upon the nature of the firm. Now it is clearly shows from the above table that the company current ratio is not good. It’s continuously declining but after year 2008 there is some little increase in current ratio. The main reason of this decline or poor performance is increasing in current liabilities. However there is also increase in current assets but the proportion of liabilities is greater than the current assets. In 2007 current liabilities is the 54. 75% of the total liabilities and equity, and in 2008 it was 57. 45 and in 2009 it was 57. 05 %. The reason of this increase in current liabilities is short term borrowing, current maturity of long term loans and trade and other payable which is continuously increasing. The overall decrease in current asset ratios during these five years is -9. 5%. Industry analysis: the industry comparison for Gull Armed company current ratio is given below with table. ears| Gull Ahmad| Industry average| 2005| 1. 05| 1. 10| 2006| 1| 1. 15| 2007| 0. 95| 1. 25| 2008| 0. 9| 0. 95| 2009| 0. 95| 0. 87| In industry analysis which is the combination of cross sectional and time series makes us to assess the trend in the behavior of the ratio in relation to the trend for the industry. As we know that higher the current ratio the better is considered. So from the above table and graph it is clearly shows that at the initial years the industry average is better from the company till 2008, but after this the company ratio is increased from the industry ratio. Quick Acid Test Ratio: A more conservative measure of liquidity is the acid test or quick ratio which is actually the measure of liquidity calculating by dividing the firm’s current assets minus inventory by its current liabilities. Formula: Quick acid ratio = Current assets – inventory Current liabilities The quick acid ratio of the Gull Ahmed Company of year 2009 is = 7359272000-4333234000 7749618000 = 0. 9 Above stated ratio shows the firm’s ability to meet its current liabilities with its most liquid assets. Quick acid ratio is always less from current ratio because of inventory. A quick ratio of greater than one is generally recommended but as with current ratio it’s also depend upon nature of the company. However the remaining year’s ratios are obtained through this method. The table of five year ratio is given below: Year| 2005| 2006| 2007| 2008| 2009| quick acid Ratio| 0. 54| 0. 47| 0. 47| 0. 42| 0. 39| Trend analysis: Generally quick ratio of greater than one is recommended but as with current ratio it’s also depend upon nature of the company. It is clearly shows from the above data of gull armed company that the company quick ratio is very poor with respect to its past data. Quick acid test ratio is continuously declining since 2005. The company current ratio is good than quick acid ratio and this indicates a potential problem in the inventories account. Now what are the reasoning of this declining, the main reason of this poor ratio is continuously increasing in the inventory level of the company since 2005. The overall decrease in quick acid test ratio is -27%. Industry analysis: Year| Gull Ahmed| Industry ratio| 2005| 0. 54| 1. 38| 2006| 0. 47| 1. 55| 2007| 0. 47| 1. 84| 2008| 0. 42| 1. 45| 2009| 0. 39| 0. 93| From the above table and data industry ratio is better from the company ratio each year. However the industry ratio is also decreasing but with lower rate than company ratio because it is continuously decreasing since 2005 but the industry ratio first increasing after 2007 its start decreasing. The potential problem of company is given in trend analysis. ACTIVITY RATIOS: Activity ratio measure the speed with which various accounts are converted into cash, inflows or out flows. With regard to current accounts measure of liquidity are generally inadequate because differences in the compositions of a firm’s current assets and current liabilities can significantly affect its true liquidity. It’s therefore important to look beyond measure of overall liquidity and to assess the activity of specific current account. A number of ratios are available of measuring the activity of the most important current account. Inventory Turnover ratio: Inventory turnover commonly measure the activity of a firm inventory . It is calculated as follow: Inventory turnover = Cost of goods sold Inventory The Inventory turnover ratio of the Gull Ahmed Company of year 2009 is = 11568139000 4333234000 = 2. 66 times year| 2005| 2006| 2007| 2008| 2009| ratio| 1. 778| 2. 4| 3. 16| 2. 28| 2. 66| The company inventory turnover ratio of 2009 is 2. 66, which indicate the effectiveness of the company and tell us that the company inventories convert into cash or CGS 2. 6 times a year. . However the remaining year’s ratios are obtained through this method. The table of five year ratio is given below: The graph showing the inventory turnover ratios of the company is given below: Trend analysis: Generally larger the value of inventory turnover considered good. However from the above graph and table which shows the five year ratios of the company the company performance is good except the year 2007. Because higher the va lue the more the company is able to convert its inventory in sales or cash. The improvement in the inventory turnover ratio is due to increase in company sales because when sales increases at the same time CGS are also increases. Industry analysis: With comparison to industry the industry ratio is better from the company in two ways, first its each year ratio is greater than the company ratio and as we know that higher this ratio the better is. Secondly the industry ratio is increasing at increasing rate but the company ratio is first increase than decrease and then again increases mean there is fluctuation in the company ratio in five years. Year| Gull Ahmed| Industry ratio| 005| 1. 778| | 2006| 2. 4| 3. 30| 2007| 3. 16| 3. 34| 2008| 2. 28| 3. 33| 2009| 2. 66| 3. 67| Inventory Turnover in Days: Inventory turnover refer to in how many days on average before inventory is converted into account receivables. Inventory turnover can be easily converted into an average age of inventory by dividing it into 365 the assumed number of days in a year. It is calculated as follow: Inventory turnover in days = Days in year Inventory turnover ratio The inventory turnover ratio of 2009 of Gull Ahmed Company is calculated as follow: = 365 . 66 = 137 days It is clearly shows from the above figure that inventory of the company convert into account receivable or CGS into 137 days. The remaining five year ratio is given below: year| 2005| 2006| 2007| 2008| 2009| inventory turnover ratio in days| 205| 152| 115| 160| 137| The graph of the above table is given below: Trend analysis: Generally lower the days of the inventory turnover ratio the better. The company ratio is good as compare to its past year ratio of 2005 and 06 and 08 but not good from 2007. This value will be more meaning full to us when we will compare it to industry which we will do in the next section. Industry analysis: year| gull armed| industry| 2005| 205| 125. 00| 2006| 152| 110. 60| 2007| 115| 109. 28| 2008| 160| 109. 90| 2009| 137| 99. 45| Generally lower the days of the inventory turnover ratio the better. So from above data clearly shows that the company performance with respect to industry is low because the industry days is lower than the company days mean it takes less days to convert inventory into CGS or sale as compare to company. So overall the industry performance is good than company and the reason is given in trend analysis. Receivable Turnover Ratio: The receivable turnover ratio provides insight into the quality of the firm’s receivable and how successful the firm in its collections. So the RT is defined as the number of times account receivables have been turned into cash during the year. The higher the turnover the shorter the time period between typical sales and cash collection. The ratio is calculated by dividing receivables into annual net credit sales. Receivable turnover ratio = Annual Net Credit Sales Receivables The Receivable turnover ratio of 2009 of Gull Ahmed Company is calculated as follow: = 13906465000 142151000 = 97. 8 The ratio tells us the number of times account receivables have been turned into cash during the year. For Gull Armed company the receivable turnover 97. 8 times during the year 2009. The Receivable turnover ratio of 2009 of Gull Ahmed Company is calculated as follow: year| 2005| 2006| 2007| 2008| 2009| Receivable turnover ratio| 32| 47| 38. 8| 168| 97. 8| The graph of the above data is given below: Trend analysis: Generally higher the value of the receivable turnover ratio better will be the performance of the company and the higher the turnover the shorter the time period between typical sales and cash collection. From the above table of data and graph it is clearly shows that the company receivable turnover is increasing and very high at year 2008 after that it fall once again. There are many reasons of increasing or good performance but the main reason is high sales of the company which continuously increasing second reason is the amount of receivable which is almost same throughout the year showing the strict policy of the company in credit term. However the overall performance in term of receivable turn ratio is better. Receivable Turnover Ratio in Days: The average collection period or receivable turnover in days is useful in evaluating credit and collection policies. It is arrived at by dividing the days in year into receivable turnover ratio. It is calculated as follow: Receivable turnover ratio in days = Days in year Receivable turnover ratio The Receivable turnover ratio of 2009 of Gull Ahmed Company is calculated as follow: = 365 97. 8 = 3. 7 days This figure tells us the average numbers of the days for which receivable are outstanding before being collected. Since the company receivable turnover ratio is 97. 8, so the average collection period is 3. 7 days. For remaining years the method is same as calculated above they are given below: year| 2005| 2006| 2007| 2008| 2009| Receivables turnover ratio in days| 11. 4| 7. 7| 9. 4| 2. 16| 3. 7| Trend analysis: The higher the turnover the shorter the time period between typical sales and cash collection. From the above data of company Gull Ahmed we can say that the company receivable turnover in days is good in term of comparing it with its past data except year 2008 because it is better than 2009. However before conclusion one must check the credit term of offered by the company to its customers. If the average collection period of company is for example 5 days then years 5, 6 and 7 will be not considered good so it is also depend upon the credit term of the company which he offered to its customers. Account Payable Ratio: There may be occasions when a firm wants to study its own promptness of payment to suppliers or that of a potential credit customer. In such cases it may be desirable to obtain an aging of accounts payable. These methods of analysis combined with the less exact payable turnover ratio allow us to analyze payables in much the same manner as we analyze receivables. It is calculated as follow: Account payable turnover ratio = Annual credit purchase Account payable The Account payable turnover ratio of Gull Ahmed Company of five years is given below: year| 2005| 2006| 2007| 2008| 2009| payable turnover ratio| 3. 9| 4. 34| 4. 999| 5. 1| 5. 6| Above ratio shows the firm promptness of payments to suppliers throughout the five year. The ratio tells us the number of times account payable has been turned into cash payment during the years. The graph of the above data is given below: Trend Analysis: Generally higher the value of account payable turnover ratio better will be the performance of the company and the higher the turnover the shorter the time period between typical credit purchases and cash payment. From the above table of data and graph it is clearly shows that the company account payable turnover is increasing and very high at year 2009. In my opinion the main reasons of this improvement is high sales of the company. Payable Turnover in days: Also called average payment period â€Å"the average amount of time needed to pay accounts payable. The average payment period is calculated in the same manner as the average receivable or collection period. Payable turnover ratio in days = Days in year Payable turnover ratio The payable turnover ratio of 2009 of Gull Ahmed Company is calculated as follow: = 365 5. 6 = 66 days This figure tells us the average numbers of the days for which payables are outstanding before being paid. Since the company payable turnover ratio is 5. 6, so the average ayment period is 66 days. For remaining years the method is same as calculated above they are given below: year| 2005| 2006| 2007| 2008| 2009| payable turnover ratio in days| 93| 84| 74| 72| 66| The graph of the above data is given below: Trend analysis: The higher the turnover the shorter the time period between typical purchases and cash payment. From the above data of company Gull Ahmed we can say that the company payable turnover in days is good in term of comparing it with its past data during five years through 2009. However before co nclusion one must check the credit term of offered by the creditor to its company. If the average payment period of company is for example 66 days and n/30 is credit term then will be not considered good so it is also depend upon the credit term of the creditor which he offered to its customers. Prospective lenders and suppliers of trade credit are most interested in the average payment period because it provides insight into the firm’s bills paying pattern. Total Asset Turnover Ratio: Total asset turnover indicates the efficiency with which the firms use its assets to generate sales. Total asset turnover is calculated as follow: Total asset turnover = Sales Total assets The total assets turnover ratio of 2009 of Gull Ahmed Company is calculated as follow: = 13906465000 13583734000 = 1. 02 This mean the company turns over its assets 1. 02 times per year. The remaining year ratio is calculated through same method and shown in the table below: year| 2005| 2006| 2007| 2008| 2009|

Proposition 215 essays

Proposition 215 essays In video 7, Public Opinion and Participation in Democracy, Proposition 215 was one of the public initiative that was lead by a group of patients and people in San Francisco. Californians voiced their honest opinion, voting yes on proposition 215 allows patients to use marijuana for medical use. They became the 215 activist group and worked together to ask the government to pass the proposition 215. The proposition 215 allows doctors to prescribe marijuana to patients with diseases that have severe symptoms. For example, cancer patients that undergo chemo-therapy and suffer from severe nausea and aching can benefit from smoking marijuana. It also improves the appetites of AIDS patients, increasing their weight and chances to live longer. The patients believed that the marijuana also helps MS patients with bladder control and tremors. There are some people who have cancer companions being put in jail because they use marijuana knowing its illegal. There were some people who disagree with proposition 215 because they fear marijuana might bring problems to society by creating anti-social behavior. Todays youth can easily access them anywhere while sick patients cant. The 215 activist groups bought up two legislative bills in 1994 and 1995, however it was rejected by the government. The 215 activist group need more volunteers and more exposure from the media so people can understand why it its necessary to pass proposition 215. According to video 7, the 215 activist group need about 700,000 signatures in order to place proposition 215 on the state ballot. There were wealthy people willing to give money and support to the campaign. The backers paid about  ¾ million dollars to circulators to get all the signatures to put it on the ballot. Then once they collected enough signatures, the activist group will start a political campaign going into the media such as advertising on TV, announcements on ra...

Promotional Campaign Olympenergy the energy drink Research Proposal

Promotional Campaign Olympenergy the energy drink - Research Proposal Example The health and energy drinks sector is the most promising, profitable and growing segment in the UK (Reuters, 2008). Accordingly Unilever plans to launch its new energy drink during the London 2012 Olympics which would give the brand a good start. This product will be labeled Olympenergy and would be an energy drink, basically a sports drink without artificial sugar. This sport drink would also be beneficial for the older generation as it would reduce muscles and joint aches. It would help the viewers of the Olympics by providing cognitive support. The energy drinks market in the UK has very high potential. This is evident from a report which says that an energy drink with an Asian ant as its principal agent made a successful entry in the UKs stimulant drinks market (Functional Ingredients, 2002). This drink raises the energy level, fights ageing, and enhances sexual vigour apart from fortifying the different systems in the body. Moreover, the energy and sport drink market is thrivin g in the UK with 484 million litres drunk in 2008 (Williams, 2011). Energy drink producers are generally targeting the young and active consumers. The campaign for plan to leverage the maximum promotional benefits is presented below. 2. Marketing strategy The marketing strategy of consumer goods has undergone a change due to internationalization and globalization. Marketing is not just restricted to adjusting the elements of the marketing mix. Today products marketing demands services being extended to the consumers, and services have extended elements of marketing mix. The marketing campaigning would include several tasks such as taking into account the issues of standardization and adaptation. 2.1 Standardization and... Unilever markets its products in all markets including the developed and the developing countries. Standardization means that the same marketing strategy is applied in all markets without considering the local factors. Standardization means identical product lines at identical prices through identical distribution systems with identical promotional programmes. Standardization can bring about significant benefits but this can be feasible if the markets and the consumer behavior are homogenous. Markets are supposed to be homogenized because of advanced technology in communication and information systems but heterogeneous cultures, political systems and economic conditions across borders makes this task difficult. Standardization is a product-oriented approach and not a customer-oriented approach to marketing. Product focus can blind the company to the consumer needs and wants. Standardization ignores the customer needs and the focus is on reducing the product variables. Cultural differ ences and competitor strategy are also important factors in devising the marketing strategy of such products. Thus, local adaptation becomes essential in devising the market plans.

Performance Enhancing Drugs Essay -- sports, athletes, drug addiction

Fourth quarter, three seconds left, tie game. Bodies exhausted and sweat all over. Ball in hand and the shot goes up. Swoosh, and the crowd goes wild! The intensity in the arena is insane and the fans all cheer out. This is what all athletes dream of. Playing the sport that they love and getting paid to do it, but how can a professional perform at the top of their game and have supporting fans if they waste everything away on drugs. They have people who look up to them as role models and they get paid to perform. The sport is their life and also supports others. Non-professional athletes are not held to this standard however and should be allowed to do as they please. Although some drugs can be seen as damaging to the health of individuals, especially athletes, some drugs can be used in other ways. However the main problem of drugs isn’t the use of the drug but the abuse. People become addicted to the substance and tend to rely on it rather than occasional use. Someone such as an athlete should not be addicted to something so life consuming as a drug. The lack of self-control with athletes towards the drugs has become a concerning social problem. Those who watch sports or look up to athletes have noticed the great disappointment when the drugs affect their body in many ways so professionals should be held to a higher standard than high school athletes. â€Å"High school athletes are not under contract, they do not get paid, and they don’t have social expectations. Professional athletes are expected to treat their bodies a certain way and drugs interfere with that. A high school player is without expectations and they should be able to decide for themselves what they do. Whether drugs cause enough harm to interfere with an athlete’s fu... ...Top List Of NBA's Most Valuable Teams." Forbes. Forbes Magazine, 23 Jan. 2013. The Facts and Fictions of the Salem Witch Trials

The idea of witchcraft has been a controversial topic since the begging of time however, witchcraft became better known in 1692, with the begging of the Salem witch trials. Many stories have been written about the Salem witch trials. Some are found in journals, other stories are exaggerated from those journals. The comparison of historical facts and the play the Crucible are the perfect example of an exaggerated actual event. During the Salem witch trials, Tituba was asked to make a â€Å"witchcake† in order to figure was afflicting Betty Parris. She was later accused of witchcraft by Betty and Abigail Parris. Betty and Abigail Parris were the first to be afflicted. Actual symptoms consisted of violent physical tantrums. Rebecca Nurse was hung on July 19th , John Proctor on August 19th, and Martha Corey on September 22nd. Tituba brought stories of voodoo and other supernatural events from Barbados. This alone compelled the girls to take part in harmless fortune-telling. Mrs. Parris was alive during the incident and died in 1696, four years after the incident. The Parris family consisted of Mr. and Mrs. Parris, Betty, Thomas, and Susannah, Abigail was only â€Å"kinfolk†. After the trials Betty was sent away. Tituba was acutally an Indian woman who had a husband named John and a daughter Violet. She was also tortured for a long time before she confessed. John was actually 60 and a tavern keeper. Elizabeth was is 3rd wife. John had a daughter that was 15, a son that is 17, and another son that is 33 from a previous marriage. Mary Warren was 20. The adultery between Abigail and John is unlikely to occur as they lived far from each other and Abigail never worked for them. Rebecca Nurse was considered least likely to be a witch- she was seen as saint-like. The Nurses were not extremely respected because they owed money. Martha Corey was accused of witchcraft and didn't enter a plea. He was pressed with stones in an attempt to force him to plea either was, but he refused. In The Crucible, Tituba was accused of leading 6 girls into the forest to cast spells and charms by a wild dancing ritual. Ruth Putnam was the first girl to be afflicted. The only symptom of bewitchment was not being able to woke from a deep slumber. John Proctor, Rebecca Nurse, and Martha Corey were all hung on the same day. Mrs. Parris has been dead for years and the family consisted of Betty. Mr. Parris, Abigail, and Tituba. Betty was present for the trials. Tituba was a single and didn't have a family as a slave. Tituba confessed quickly. John Proctor is young and is a farmer. Elizabeth is his only wife. John Proctor only has 2 young sons. Marry Warren was 17. John and Abigail committed adultery. Abigail worked for the Proctor before Mary. The daughter's named Ruth Putnam. Ruth was the only child of 8 the survive. Both of the Nurses were deeply respected and revered. Giles Corey was executed for refusing to reveal the name of a witness. But, none of this really occurred during the Salem Witch Trials. In my opinion, The Crucible reflected a lot of what happened during the Salem witch trials, but I feel like Arthur Miller exaggerated the historical facts. Miller changed the people's lives. I think he intentionally changed the story like that to make it more interesting, but he changed it just a little to much.

Theme of Madness and Causes Hamlet and Ophelia Essay

In Shakespeares Hamlet, there are two characters that display qualities of insanity. Specifically, Hamlet and Ophelia, although they both appear to be mad at times, their downfall (or supposed downfall) is quite different. Ophelias madness seems complete while Hamlets is questionable throughout the play. Hamlets madness comes and goes; Ophelias does not. Ophelia tells no one that she is mad; on the other hand, Hamlet shows everyone about his madness. Hamlet turns his madness on and off depending on the company he keeps. Ophelia on the other hand, cannot handle the loss of Hamlets love, her brothers absence, and her fathers death. It is all too much for her and she snaps. Hamlet and Ophelia’s position in society, along with the†¦show more content†¦Hamlet’s state of clinical depression was diagnosed as having too much black bile in the body, but also during that time period the presence of psychological disorders is recognized through just one disorder,  "madness†. Having too much black bile in the body would show melancholy moods and other abnormal behavior (Diderot Pg.308). First Hamlet puts on, â€Å"†¦an antic disposition.† (1.5.172) then he uses the symptoms of a madman to carry the disposition out. The symptoms from the excess black bile signals melancholia depression from the grief of â€Å"†¦his father’s death and our hasty marriage† as Gertrude explains to Claudius (2.2.57). The death of his father and marriage of his mother could be considered a significant conflict in Hamlet’s life. But because of his notoriety in Denmark he’s forced to grieve in silence and even in silence he is told to, â€Å"†¦cast thy knighted color off/ and let thine eye look like a friend on Denmark† (1.2.68). Gertrude persuades Hamlet through his love for her to silence himself about the death of his father. Hamlet’s use of wit to simulate madness is that of what only a genius could make of. Hamlet uses a direct tone to talk to those who threaten him, for example: Polonius, Hamlet despises his way of collecting information it is a lack of shame deserving worse than death itself. Polonius says, â€Å"He knew meShow MoreRelatedPoison Motif Within Hamlet By William Shakespeare1227 Words   |  5 Pagesthroughout Hamlet The concept of poison is all around society: poisonous people, poisonous ideas, and poisonous environments; however, the poison in society cannot be avoided, it’s inevitable some would say. As Michael Uhl once put it â€Å"you’ve got to pick your poison†, and hope for the least of the evils, which unfortunately is not always the case. In Shakespeare s Hamlet, the motif of poison functions to be the symbol of corruption throughout the play that highlights the theme of death, madness, and theRead MoreEssay about Theme of Madness Conveyed in Shakespeares Hamlet1150 Words   |  5 PagesWilliam Shakespeare’s Hamlet, one of the most evident and important themes is the theme of madness. However, madness is still at the heart of this play, whether it be real or feigned.
